The objective of this work is to present the process of design and validation of the Literary Competence Battery (BCL). The Battery consists of three scales: Literary Concepts Scale (ECL), Literary Procedures Scale (EPL) and Attitudes towards Literature Scale (EAL). The acquisition of Literary Competence (CL) is the main objective of the so-called Literary Education. However, there are few methods to measure this competence and most of them present practical problems that limit their standardization. Recientes estudios han demostrado el escaso hábito lector de los estudiantes universitarios españoles, así como la falta de solidez de su competencia literaria. Estas limitaciones ponen de relieve la necesidad de la lectura guiada, una propuesta didáctica que suele relacionarse con los niveles iniciales de la enseñanza, pero cuya necesidad se hace cada vez más imperiosa en la educación superior. En este contexto, el presente artículo apuesta por el seminario de lectura como una de las estrategias más efectivas, a la par que estimulantes, para acompañar a los universitarios en ese aprendizaje. Partiendo del concepto de literacidad en el siglo XXI y la importancia de desarrollar la capacidad del pensamiento crítico en los estudiantes tanto de primaria como de secundaria, este capítulo argumenta a favor de la competencia literaria como clave de la educación integral. The development of literacy at an early stage in the education of young learners turns crucial in order for them to manage, analyze, critique and synthesize multiple streams of simultaneous information. The degree to which students can make use of language to read and understand texts in all formats (books, on-line newspapers, pictures, videos, etc) is a key indicator of their ability to make and communicate meaning.
